In responding to this, I must quote the sacred text back to you; it feels apropos. "You're going down a path I can't follow!"

That's very much tongue-in-cheek, and said with all respect and admiration. One of the reasons I love reading you is because of how deeply you care about Star Wars. Even if I can't see it, as in this case. You make such a convincing argument that I have to reconsider my own position.

Fun little "it's a small world, after all" moment -- I read your piece in Humungous nearly 5 years ago. I follow John on Medium and loved his pub. It's just funny how I discovered you then, and more recently here. The will of the Force is clearly at work.

I just re-read the piece and I'm still blown over by this bit: When you’re a kid, you’re wrestling with your hopes. You’re asking “Who will I be?” After 40, you’re wrestling with your experiences. You’re asking “Who have I become?”

Dude.

I’m one of the fans that mostly hated it. Having read the EU books, I was excited about how Rise of Skywalker expanded power levels (Sidious’ and Rey’s lightning scenes, healing wounds, raising the dead), but that was really the only thing I liked. I refused to watch the sequels for a couple years.

I eventually watched some video essays that argue that Last Jedi is actually good. Years later, without realizing it, the sequels became the films I usually prefer to watch.

I didn’t see that coming AT ALL.. but yes. It has its flaws, but Rise of Skywalker is aight. If nothing else, it’s an extremely exciting movie to watch

I was firmly on the side of 'this is a mess', but this has made me rethink. Going to have to watch it all over again!

Nice job. I like this film too and believe it and TLJ will hold up over time.

Interesting. Sadly, this whole trilogy just SCREAMED through the story wayyy too fast for me. I barely knew who the characters were or WTF was happening, and I barely cared. It seemed like I was actually able to follow this one better than the others.

The themes you present here actually make sense. Too bad they weren't presented such that the fans could get a better grasp on them.

Okay, I have to admit that my least favorite moment of Star Wars is in this movie, but I'm not letting that little part ruin the whole thing for me.

I'm with you, man! Within the first 10 minutes, I knew I was going to love this movie and I was right. At the end, I told my friend in the theater that it was everything I wanted. Of all the excellent parts of your essay, I wanted to highlight how you articulated my thoughts about Snoke even better than I ever could. The article is a most fitting end to your series about the saga. Now, I'm looking forward to your write-up of Solo.
