Thank you for writing this!! I had originally considered writing about witches and feminine power for my post this week, but backed down because I didn’t think I could do a good enough job with it. The one thing floating around in my head that I can add is about the Salem witch trials (or just the rhetoric of witch trials in general). Framing female power as evil is what a patriarchy does when they feel threatened by that power and don’t want others to have it. So it’s very possible that there’s some Jedi bul— rhetoric that we hear later that tries to brand this coven as dark and evil when in fact, as you so eloquently explain, they are not.

Thank you for your piece too, I always love The Long Take. It's hard not to notice that the Coven has found refuge somewhere because they had to escape. Persecution seems to have led them to Brendok, and they all find their ends there.

What's interesting about the Salem Witch Trials is that pretty much none of the people accused of witchcraft would have claimed the term: they were mostly just women in the community being attacked for personal reasons. It's only the more modern movement that claims that mantle as positive.

Either way, lots to chew on. And I absolutely love this look at the Jedi. The show gives us Jedi who seem like nice people, but also people who live inside one orthodox view. That view can do a lot of good, until all the sudden, it doesn't.

I had forgotten that about the Salem Witch Trials! Maybe I was thinking more of academic articles on The Crucible than actual history 😆

And agree about this look at the Jedi. I appreciate that Indara and Sol seem to have opposite personalities.

i'm looking forward to seeing Brendok from a different perspective, probably Mae's. i'm thinking that Jedi Master Trinity made a call that divided the team, Jedi Joonas Brother strongly disagreed and sliced Padawan Tommen Baratheon's face, and Jedi Squid Game tried to keep the peace.

what do you think of the theory that Plagueis created the twins with Aniseya using "unnatural" powers and that Anakin was the Force's response?

That's a really interesting theory! The fact that we see Twin Moons (that mirror the logo) over this Coven and someday Luke will be under Twin Suns is bringing me a lot of joy, too.

Sith progenitors? Conspiracy theories! (Which I love, by the way.) I agree, this show is really good so far. I liked the way they made things complicated on both sides, and I also like whenever the Star Wars universe portrays the Jedi as being, um, less than perfect. Though I think I'd still want to be a Jedi, despite that coven being way cool.
