The last few months I’ve had a uptick in subscribers to the newsletter, so I’m taking a moment to say Thank You to those who have supported the newsletter over it’s first year plus, and say Welcome those who’ve just discovered Ahch-To Baby.
For newcomers, here’s the ethos of this newsletter: I’m here to celebrate Star Wars and all things related to Star Wars. I don’t really review episodes or movies so much as think about them and share those thoughts. I don’t share news unless I’m excited (new teaser trailer look!). I’m not very interested in ranking favorites or critiquing them. Life’s too short to hold everything accountable for every imperfection or pretend there’s some objective standard in art. I’m interested in the other ways to process mythology and movies. I want to go beyond ‘did I like it?’ and think about what these stories are saying, how they make me feel, what they’re exploring.
I wrote a little about that here, the day before Obi-Wan Kenobi was released.
So, for those who found Ahch-To Baby because of my Indiana Jones responses, here’s all five of the responses to the series. This newsletter is pretty much a Star Wars zone, but this counts, it’s Lucasfilm’s other great fantasy story.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Beyond that, I’ve written responses to each episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor and Mandalorian Season 3, all in the Archives.
Two of the more popular pieces are:
The Definitive Star Wars Watch Order
There’s Good In Him: Redemption and Identity in Star Wars (which is for paid subscribers)
Speaking of which, paywalled writing here is not common, I try to keep almost all of what I write free for everyone, but I do have paid updates that I think are worth a few bucks a month, if you’re inclined to support Ahch-To Baby and her author.
I created Ahch-To Baby because I love Star Wars and I found precious little writing about it that made me smile. The social media landscape about Star Wars is a sea of negativity and anxiety. I don’t mean to be controversial here but being a fan is supposed to be fun. I try to capture that spirit with this newsletter.
If that’s the kind of writing you like to see, please click the button below and sign up as a paid subscriber. It’ll be a vote of confidence that means a great deal to me, and will help drive me forward in writing in about a galaxy, far, far away.
Thanks for reading! May the Force be with you!
I like your attitude towards writing: I think and then let you know what I think. You want to have a conversation about a work of art instead of judging its value. Because let's face it, the things we find in a story valuable are subjective and personal. I'm getting acquainted with the world of Star Wars and am so happy to find your blog. Thank you for sharing!
