Shawn Trpcic passed away this past week at only 56 years old. She was the Costume Designer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, her relationship with Star Wars starting in 2019. Think about how much incredible work she created in those few years. Star Wars is a a singularly visual idea, a web of interlocking influences, and to have translated that into iconic costumes, that transformed actors and transported viewers, made her a true artist.
As I’ve said, it’s easy to spend time talking about the person who had a directing credit and ascribe the entire creative vision to that person. But to make these massive productions, you need excellence everywhere. Shawn Trpcic was clearly brilliant at her work and made what we see come alive, feel lived in, and memorable. She did it on a scale that’s barely imaginable. Hundreds of designs.
Our hearts go out to those who knew her. Thank you Shawna.
Speaking of excellence at every level, I’d like to add another round of applause for the score that carried us to the Ahsoka Finale’s credits.
