Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny arrives June 30th.
Indiana Jones is the traveling companion for Star Wars, another story cooked up from a mishmash of serials by George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan with a score by John Williams. And let’s not forget, that other guy who directed all but this one, Steven Spielberg (he’s done okay for himself), shadow-directed Revenge of the Sith. It was also produced by Kathleen Kennedy, who may or may not be involved in Star Wars.
It’s also just as much a fantasy world as Star Wars, filled with magic and spiritualism and wonky physics, it’s just got a different set of references. Yes, the last movie had aliens, but the first movie has someone’s head exploded by the power of God; the second had someone’s heart torn out of their body while they watched on, still alive (the second movie is grim folks); and the third had an immortal knight; so you know, which is more realistic? I guess that depends on what you believe and how hard you believe it.
I’d say this movie is being tentatively anticipated by most, because Crystal Skull wasn’t considered a triumph (as I’ve said, I think it’s great). For me, though, a last Indiana Jones adventure with James Mangold at the helm (who has a Star Wars movie in the pipeline too!) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a co-lead on the big screen is exactly my thing, and I have already watched it 100 times in my mind.
This is all a preamble for the release of one whole minute of this movie, which I think looks like classic Indy and I am thrilled. For those worried about spoilers, I’d say this clip shows less about the plot than the trailer, it’s more proof that the speedy-style and quips are back.
Enjoy!
