It is the summer of Barbenheimer, two movies counter-programmed, that became conjoined by the power of the almighty meme. These movies about monsters made by well-intentioned (?) people have portmanteaued themselves into our hearts and wallets.
There’s a lot to write about why the traditional Hollywood movie (including my beloved Indy 5) has failed to catch on in a way these tonally disparate, wild hits have; but I’ll save that for another time. Instead, I would like to get into the spirit of Hot Portmanteau Summer.
Dr. Jones and Dr. Oppenheimer have quite a lot in common. They are a match made in heaven, otherwise known as the dreadful transition between World War 2 and the Cold War!
