This looks so wonderful! I love the title! The old serials had wacky, weird titles. It should be dorky and gee-whiz and just plain fun. This was a throwback when the first one came out. Throwback is the thing. Nothing about Indiana Jones needs to be updated, just celebrated.
By the way, we’re about to hear a lot of shade thrown at Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as if this movie is a kind of corrective. I loved Crystal Skull. It was Lucas doing Indy in the 1950s - nuclear tests, UFO movies, Russians and greasers. If you got it, you got it. Lucas was never interested in bending his stories to the audience, he was always interested in expressing his loves and influences in a pure way.
Plus, watch the action sequences. They’re a wonderful example of how the form used to work all the time, where you can tell what’s happening, where things are in relationship to each other, and get a sense of how our hero gets from one place to another. Escalating little crises that pile on top of each other until the action has to stop so you can breathe. That’s how Crystal Skull generally worked. Plus, Karen Allen and Harrison Ford still got it.
So, I’m not glad they’re making this one because I didn’t like the last one. I am just glad there’s more. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny looks dope.
Lucasfilm bringing Willow back (more to come there!) and now this Indiana Jones James Mangold joint is giving me so much life.
Agreed. I like Crystal Skull too. SO PUMPED FOR THIS!!!!
