Yesterday, D23 offered us some glimpses of Star Wars projects on the horizon. Let’s dig in, shall we?

Skeleton Crew

Skeleton Crew’s glorious first poster and terrific teaser were released and to me? They really do deliver on the Spielberg/Amblin spirit that’s been hinted at since the series was announced. From the optimistic score to the Star Wars Suburbs, the whole thing feels adorable and big, an old fashioned family adventure. Lots of great little Easter Eggs (was that Gorian Shard’s Corsair ship?) but more than that, just good vibes. This whole thing feels like a hug.

I’m getting soft in my old age, but that brings a tear to my eye. Not because I remember the style - style is hollow without a feeling - no, I remember being a kid when stories like these were common place and given the same budgets as every other major motion picture. “Content” for a “younger demographic” wasn’t made cheaply; we were given Time Bandits, ET and Flight of the Navigator and The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal and yes, The Goonies.

Skeleton Crew feels like it’s cut from that cloth, and I can’t wait to go on that adventure in December.

Rebuild The Galaxy

I mean, that’s just plain fun. Mark Hamill’s voice portrayal of alternate reality Luke is so inspired and generous. Plus, Darth Jar Jar, and a billion little wish list items. This looks like a barrel of fun and creativity. I’m in, in, in.

Speaking of Hamill voicing Luke in animation - doesn’t this make you feel like the solution to telling more stories with Luke, Han, and Leia in their own era is animation? You could get some great voice actors for Han and Leia, Hamill could voice Luke, and Anthony Daniels is always at the ready to reprise Threepio. I’d watch the hell out of some original trilogy in-canon adventures with Hamill in the voice lead. You’ve got your pick of incredible animation styles - throw a dart at a wall-full of the animators that made Visions - and we’d get a hell of a series.

Andor Season 2

Andor’s second season got a teaser in the presentation hall - I’m sure the footage can be unearthed online. What was shared with me confirmed K2-S0 and Orson Krennic, along with more Saw Gerrera and the rest of the core cast. The whole thing looked suitably revolutionary and Rogue One-y. Apparently this season takes place over four years, not all that different from the mini-arcs we got in Andor Season 1.
