Ahsoka Approaches!
New video released yesterday about Ahsoka and then...the official trailer today!
Now that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is in theaters, Lucasfilm can turn on the hype spigot for its next Star Wars series: Ahsoka. This landmark for a well-loved character will be lighting up our laptops, phones and even maybe TV screens in just over a month.
Journey To Ahsoka was released yesterday, a promotional way of connecting the story of Ahsoka herself (still a character who has existed as a cartoon almost exclusively) and Rosario Dawson being cast in the role.
The video itself is perfectly okay, it’s mostly the teaser trailer with some interviews and about two seconds of new footage. If you’re a long-time fan, there’s nothing you don’t know here, but it’s always fun when Lucasfilm starts to get the audience wound up. They have a storied history of being very very good at it.
I was curious how the Ahsoka story would translate beyond the hardcore fanbase. The story looks to be a continuation of the story Dave Filoni told with Rebels, an animated series that never had the cultural impact of the feature films. How easily will someone who only knows Ahsoka from The Mandalorian find their way into the unusually (for Star Wars) dense backstory? I had lots of questions about if they’re trying to connect too many threads from too many sources to be welcoming to casual viewers.
Then they released the official trailer this morning!
AND WHATEVER I AM VERY VERY EXCITED! THIS IS GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE! THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF! As my friend Josh just wrote me via text, and I quote: “LLLLEEEEEETTTTTSSSSS GGGGGGOOOOOO”
Bring me ALL OF THIS.
(cough)
Ahem.
