A few quick bites as I continue to navigate my life in the world, my play running in Alphabet City, and keeping up with the Star Wars Joneses. More, rich, layered bullshit about my favorite movies from yours truly coming soon! In the meantime, Rando Returns.
A new romantic and sweeping image of Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood has been released by Entertainment Weekly as a part of their Fall TV Preview. (As an image of some familiar pirates.) I’m loving his look here, which seems closer to Han Solo than a Qui-Gon Jinn. Have to love the blaster’s look and feel, too, which says Treasure Island. December can’t arrive fast enough.
Star Wars: Outlaws has now been out for a few weeks and I still haven’t played it! It’s kind of killing me. I guess this is what it means to be a 48 year old man with stuff to do: I haven’t been able to clear the decks for my priority, which is PS5. I can’t wait to fire it up!
When Outlaws was announced I wrote a piece about the contradiction of canon and an open world. Can your choices truly be entirely open if there is a canonical ending? Ladies and gentlemen, my relationship with the concept of canon remains strained!
I’m two episodes into Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy (I’m so behind) and so far my hot take is that it is, you know, fun. I’m not terribly invested in the lead characters (sorry, it’s hard to be invested in every set of twins Star Wars has on offer), and I’m not put off that it’s a toy commercial (my entire childhood was a toy commercial), it’s just a joy to see Star Wars remixed. I also love that this seems to follow the subtle theme of the Lego Movie itself, which is, there’s no one way to Lego. Some people like to follow the path, some people like to dump out the pieces, and all those things are valid.
The best part, without a doubt, is Mark Hamill voicing Luke Skywalker again, in a hilariously skeptical retelling of his story. Any time Hamill can have fun with his sacred character, we’re all in for a good time. Luke is my favorite character, so more Luke, even podracer jerk Luke, has been all signed up.
Thanks for bearing with me, friends! More substantive pieces to come!
